National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon have announced the appointment of Debra L. Stefanik as Officer-in-Charge of the Agency's Subregional office in Peoria, Illinois (Subregion 33). In her new position, Ms. Stefanik will assist Rik Lineback, Director of the NLRB’s Region 25 in Indianapolis, in enforcing the National Labor Relations Act in Indiana, 48 counties in central and northern Illinois, and 8 counties in Iowa along the Mississippi River.
Ms. Stefanik received her Bachelor’s degree in English-Communications/Secondary Education from The Ohio State University in 1979 and her J.D. degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1983. Following her graduation, Ms. Stefanik was a clerk for an administrative law judge at the U.S. Department of Labor for nine months and a trial attorney at the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., for five years. In 1989 she joined the National Labor Relations Board as an attorney in the Contempt Litigation and Compliance Branch. In 1991 she transferred to the then-Regional office in Peoria, Illinois, and was promoted to Supervisory Attorney in 2011.
The NLRB investigates and remedies unfair labor practices and conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation.
