Regions 31 and 21 of the NLRB, along with the Orange County Labor and Employment Relations Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, held the 34th Annual Labor and Employment Law Conference in Anaheim on July 27, 2016.
The conference was attended by individuals representing unions, union counsel, businesses, management counsel, public entities, neutrals, academics, government agencies, and students. The keynote speaker was the Hon. Mark Gaston Pearce, Chairman, National Labor Relations Board, who gave a talk about the NLRB and updates on new case law.
The NLRB Roundtable this year discussed the impact of the Board's new representation case rules and experiences with the rules; the NLRB's controversial new joint-employer standard in Browning Ferris, and the impacts of that decision on employers, workers, and unions; and different types of unfair labor practice case settlements. The Roundtable also featured an interactive refresher on employees' right to representation in union settings. Regional Director of Region 31 Mori Rubin and Regional Director of Region 21 Olivia Garcia participated on this panel, along with union attorney Michael Four and employer attorney Daniel Adlong. The moderator of the panel was Region 21 Supervisory Field Examiner John Hatem.
