Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 18 serves areas in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin from its Regional Office in Minneapolis and its Subregional Office in Milwaukee.
Outreach on NLRB's Revised Representation Case Procedures
On April 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be presenting at the Minnesota AFL-CIO on 175 Aurora Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota to discuss the NLRB’s Revised Representation Case Rules and changes.

On April 1, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., Regional Director Marlin Osthus and Officer-in-Charge Benjamin Mandelman will be presenting a summary of the NLRB’s Revised Representation Case Rules and changes to the P&P Committee at the Milwaukee Subregional Office.
Outreach at University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management
On October 7, 2014, Supervisory Attorney Nichole Burgess-Peel will be presenting on collective bargaining and related issues to graduate students at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.
Outreach at Legal Expo in Brooklyn Center, MN
On October 29, 2014, Field Attorney Chinyere Ohaeri will be participating in the Legal Expo at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Field Attorney Ohaeri will be presenting and answering questions regarding social media in the workplace and protected concerted activity.
Labor Rights Week at the Consulate of Mexico
On August 25, 2014, Field Examiner Martha Armstrong will be presenting at the inaugural ceremony for Labor Rights Week at the Consulate of Mexico in St. Paul, Minnesota. Field Examiner Armstrong will discuss workers' rights under the NLRA and services offered by the Regional Office. Other speakers at the event will include Theresa Walls, District Director of the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, and Silvia Ontaneda, Consul of Ecuador.
Presentation by the Regional Director at FMCS Regional Meeting
On August 22, 2014, Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be speaking at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Regional Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Regional Director will provide an update on the NLRB, including Noel Canning, and will discuss other topics such as employee rights to use social media to protest working conditions, employer work rules that violate the NLRA, and Region 18 cases involving bad faith bargaining charges.

Outreach at the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management
On April 17, 18, and 24, 2013, Deputy Regional Director Jim Fox, Supervisory Attorney Nichole Burgess-Peel, and Field Examiner Martha Armstrong presented to graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management regarding the NLRA and its applications.
Outreach at the Mexican Consulate
On August 26, 2013, Field Examiner Martha Armstrong and Field Attorney Rachel Centinario presented at the Mexican Consulate in St. Paul during Labor Week regarding workers' rights under the NLRA in both union and non-union settings.

On April 25, 2013, Resident Officer Jennifer Hadsall presented, "NLRA Basics: NLRA Application in Right to Work States and Non-Unionized Workplaces" at the 2013 Iowa Employment, Training, Benefits & Wellness Conference.
