On January 3, 2017, Assistant to the Regional Director Steven L. Shuster officially retired from the NLRB.  Mr. Shuster’s career with the NLRB spanned 37 years, beginning in 1979.  Mr. Shuster came to the NLRB as a Field Examiner after he had spent a number of years working for the Social Security Administration.  In the mid-1980s, he received promotion to the position of Resident Officer in the Washington Resident Office of Region 5.  In 1987, Mr. Shuster received a promotion to the position of Assistant to the Regional Director in Region 5, the position he held at the time of his retirement.  Mr. Shuster spent his entire career with the NLRB in Region 5.
During his illustrious career, Mr. Shuster handled many high-profile assignments, including serving as the lead agent in the Newport News Shipyard election, supervising the investigation of charges involving the 1987 NFL strike, and, most recently, steering the parties to an election agreement in January 2017 election conducted by the Region in Baltimore Gas & Electric.
Mr. Shuster provided invaluable assistance to the public served by Region 5 and to the many colleagues who worked with him in the Region.  Over the years, Mr. Shuster served as a mentor and advisor to countless Board agents.  His extensive knowledge of Board and court opinions covering the NLRA provided invaluable support to the Region in reaching considered and informed decisions.   Overall, Mr. Shuster made an enormous contribution to the mission and work of the Agency and Region 5.   He will be missed by his many friends and colleagues.
