Christopher Roy named Officer-in-Charge in Memphis office

National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon have announced the appointment of Christopher J. Roy as Officer-in-Charge of the Agency's newly-designated Subregional office in Memphis, Tennessee (Subregion 26).  In his new position, Mr. Roy will assist Kathleen McKinney, Director of the NLRB’s Region 15 in New Orleans, in enforcing the National Labor Relations Act in western Tennessee, Arkansas, and northern Mississippi.  Mr. Roy is Subregion 26’s initial Officer-in-Charge upon its formal restructuring with the New Orleans office, which became effective December 10, 2012.
Mr. Roy received his B.A. degree in political science from the University of Southern California in 1991, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Following his graduation, Mr. Roy taught elementary school for two years in New Orleans through the Teach for America program and then earned his J.D. degree from the University of Southern California in 1996.  After practicing law with a firm in Los Angeles for two years, he began his NLRB career as a field attorney in the Los Angeles Regional Office, Region 21, in 1999.  He transferred to the Memphis Regional Office in 2001 and in 2011 was promoted to Deputy Regional Attorney.
The NLRB investigates and remedies unfair labor practices and conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation.
