Washington, D.C. – National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman Philip A. Miscimarra and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. have named David Cohen the new Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 12, headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Region 12, along with Subregion 24 located in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Miami Resident Office, is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions in 55 counties in Florida, 21 counties in southern Georgia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.
Mr. Cohen most recently served as the Regional Attorney in Region 12, assisting former Regional Director Margaret J. Diaz, who recently retired from the Agency.
Mr. Cohen is a graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he majored in Government and Law, and from Rutgers University School of Law – Newark.  He worked in the NLRB’s Brooklyn Regional Office as a Field Examiner, and later in the positions of Field Attorney, Trial Specialist, and Supervisory Attorney, from 1977 until 1995, when he transferred to the Tampa Regional Office.  In 1997, he was appointed Deputy Regional Attorney and, in 2012, he was appointed Regional Attorney.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities. It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
