National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced their selection of George Velastegui to serve as Regional Director of the Agency’s Region 32 office in Oakland, California. Mr. Velastegui will be responsible for enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in the jurisdiction of Region 32, which services portions of northern California and the northern half of Nevada.
Mr. Velastegui received his B.A. degree from Whittier College in 1979 and his J.D. degree from the University of California, Davis, in 1982. After briefly working in private practice, Mr. Velastegui started his career with the Agency in 1983 as a field attorney in the Oakland office. He received a promotion to the position of Supervisory Field Attorney in 2006, to Deputy Regional Attorney in 2007, and to Regional Attorney in 2011, all three positions in the Oakland office.
The NLRB administers and enforces the National Labor Relations Act. It conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation and investigates and remedies unfair labor practices.
