National Labor Relations Board Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon announced the appointment of career attorney George Velastegui as Regional Attorney of the NLRB’s Regional Office in Oakland (Region 32).  In his new position, he will be responsible for the supervision of legal work in cases arising under the National Labor Relations Act in Region 32, which services northern California and the northern half of Nevada.
Mr. Velastegui received his B.A. degree from Whittier College in 1979 and his J.D. degree from the University of California in 1982.  He began his career with the NLRB as a field attorney in the Oakland office in 1983.  He was promoted to Supervisory Field Attorney in 2006 and to Deputy Regional Attorney in 2007, both in the Oakland office.
The NLRB administers and enforces the National Labor Relations Act.  It conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation and investigates and remedies unfair labor practices
