Jane North appointed Officer in Charge in Winston-Salem

National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon have announced the appointment of Jane North as Officer in Charge of the Agency's newly-designated Subregional office in Winston-Salem, North Carolina (Subregion 11). In her new position, Ms. North will assist Claude Harrell, Director of the NLRB’s Region 10 in Atlanta, in enforcing the National Labor Relations Act in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, and in certain counties in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Ms. North is Subregion 11’s initial Officer in Charge upon its formal restructuring with the Atlanta office, which became effective today.
A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, Ms. North received her B.A. degree from Eckerd College and her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tennessee. She served as a law clerk for the Honorable Gilbert S. Merritt in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, after which she was in private practice in Nashville, Tennessee for three years. She began her NLRB career as a field attorney in the Winston-Salem office in 1988. She was promoted to Supervisory Field Attorney in 2000; Deputy Regional Attorney in 2002; Regional Attorney in 2009; and Deputy Regional Director in 2009.
The NLRB investigates and remedies unfair labor practices and conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation.
