Jayme Sophir named Deputy Associate General Counsel in the Division of Advice

Lafe Solomon, Acting General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, today announced the promotion of Jayme L. Sophir to Deputy Associate General Counsel in the Division of Advice.Ms. Sophir had been an Assistant General Counsel responsible for managing the Division's Regional Advice Branch, which provides guidance to the Agency’s Regional Offices with respect to difficult or novel legal issues arising in the processing of unfair labor practice charges. In her new position, Ms. Sophir will also be involved in managing the Division’s Injunction Litigation and Legal Research/Policy Planning Branches.  She succeeds Ellen Farrell, who is retiring this week.Ms. Sophir joined the Division of Advice in 1988 as a staff attorney working in both the Regional Advice and Injunction Litigation Branches. She was appointed Supervisory Attorney in the Regional Advice Branch in 1997, and became Assistant General Counsel in that Branch in 2009. Before joining the agency, she was in private practice for several years. She is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and received a B.A. degree in history from Cornell University, in 1980, and a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1985.The NLRB administers and enforces the National Labor Relations Act, a federal law which regulates labor-management relations in the private sector. It conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether or not employees desire union representation and it investigates, prosecutes, and remedies unfair labor practices.
