Washington, D.C. – National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Acting Chairman Philip A. Miscimarra and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. have named Jill Coffman the new Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 20 Office in San Francisco. The Region 20 Office is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions throughout northern California, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Following graduation from Washington University Law School in St. Louis in 1989, she was in private practice in Washington, D.C. Ms. Coffman joined the NLRB in 1992 as an attorney on the staff of then-Chairman James Stephens. She transferred to Region 20 in San Francisco in 1996 and was promoted to Supervisory Attorney in 2005. In 2007, Ms. Coffman was appointed as a Deputy Regional Attorney.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities. It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
