Jim Paulsen named Regional Director in Brooklyn

NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe E. Solomon today announced the appointment of James G. Paulsen as Regional Director in the Brooklyn Regional Office (Region 29).  
Mr. Paulsen will be responsible for enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island in New York City; and Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond and Suffolk Counties.
Mr. Paulsen received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College in 1974.  He was awarded his J.D. from the University of Florida Law School where he graduated first in his class in 1976.  He began his career with the NLRB in the Agency’s Division of Advice and then worked as a field attorney in the Agency’s Manhattan and Brooklyn offices (Regions 2 and 29).  He was promoted to supervision in the Manhattan Regional Office and then promoted to a Deputy Assistant General Counsel position in the Division of Operations-Management in 1996.  He has been a member of the Senior Executive Service since 1999 when he was promoted to the Assistant General Counsel position. 
Most recently in the Division of Operations-Management, Mr. Paulsen has had oversight responsibility for eight regions primarily located in the Northeast - Boston (Region 1), Manhattan (Region 2), Newark (Region 22), Brooklyn (Region 29), Buffalo (Region 3), Hartford (Region 34), Atlanta (Region 10) and New Orleans (Region 15).  Mr. Paulsen received the Presidential Rank Award in 2003 for his excellent managerial and legal skills.  He will replace Regional Director Alvin Blyer who retired last year.
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative.  The Agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
