National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced the appointment of Joanne Mages as the Regional Attorney of the NLRB's Regional Office in Indianapolis, Indiana (Region 25).
A career NLRB employee, Ms. Mages has been serving as Deputy Regional Attorney in Region 25.  In her new position, Ms. Mages will assist Regional Director Rik Lineback in the administration and enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act in almost all counties in Indiana, parts of Kentucky, northern Illinois and Iowa along the Mississippi River. She succeeds Richard Simon who retired earlier this year.
A native of Shelbyville, Indiana, Ms. Mages received her B.S. in Business from Indiana University in 1987, and her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1990.  She began her career with the NLRB as a Field Attorney in the Indianapolis Regional Office in 1990. In 2004 she was promoted to Supervisory Attorney and then to Deputy Regional Attorney in 2007.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities.  It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
