Richard F. Griffin, Jr., General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, today announced the appointment of John Walsh as Assistant to the Regional Director of the National Labor Relations Board's office in Newark, New Jersey (Region 22).
A career NLRB employee, Mr. Walsh had been serving as the Assistant to the Regional Director in Region 29, Brooklyn. He succeeds Edward Peterson, who retired from the Agency. In his new position, Mr. Walsh will assist Regional Director J. Michael Lightner in the processing of unfair labor practice and representation cases arising in northern and central New Jersey.
A native of Medford, Massachusetts, Mr. Walsh graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in 1979. He began his career at the NLRB's Brooklyn Regional Office in 1978, as a cooperative education student. Mr. Walsh converted to the Field Examiner position in 1979. He was promoted to Supervisory Field Examiner in 1990 and Assistant to the Regional Director in 1996.
The NLRB administers and enforces the National Labor Relations Act. It investigates and remedies unfair labor practices and conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation.
