Karen Fernbach named Regional Director in Manhattan

NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe E. Solomon today announced the appointment of Karen P. Fernbach as Regional Director in the Manhattan Regional Office (Region 2).
Ms. Fernbach will be responsible for the enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in the boroughs of Manhattan and the Bronx in New York City; and Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties in New York.
Ms. Fernbach received her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1973 and her JD from St. John’s University School of Law in 1977. Ms. Fernbach began her career with the Agency in 1977 as a field attorney in the Manhattan office. She remained in this position until 1985 when she was promoted to a supervisory position. In 1988 she was promoted to the Regional Attorney position in Manhattan. She will replace Regional Director Celeste Mattina who is transferring to Washington D C headquarters as Deputy General Counsel.
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative. The Agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
