Nelson A. Levin appointed Deputy Associate General Counsel of Operations-Management

National Labor Relations Board Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon today announced the appointment, effective August 4, 2011, of Nelson A. Levin as Deputy Associate General Counsel of the Division of Operations-Management in the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC. 
In his new role, Mr. Levin will act as Deputy to Associate General Counsel Anne Purcell, who also will start in her new position on August 4.  Mr. Levin will have oversight responsibility for the operations and management of the Agency’s 51 nationwide field offices with the support of a staff of 19 professionals.  Mr. Levin started his career with the Agency as an attorney in the Division of Advice in 1975.  He transferred to Region 5 (Baltimore) in 1979 and was one of the Region’s lead litigators.  He moved up the ranks to become a Deputy Regional Attorney in the Region in 1987.  In 1989 he joined the Division of Operations Management as a Deputy Assistant General Counsel.  In 2000 he was promoted to Assistant General Counsel in Operations.  He has had management oversight over several Districts, most recently District IV which encompasses the West Coast Regions and the regional offices in Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Puerto Rico.  A native of Washington, DC, Mr. Levin received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from George Washington University.
Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon said, “I am extremely pleased to appoint Nelson to this position.  His experience as a litigator in the field combined with his excellent legal and managerial skills make him an ideal person for the Deputy Associate General Counsel position.   His practical problem solving approach will be invaluable as we meet the challenges of the future.  I am confident that the Division is in excellent hands with Nelson serving as Deputy.”
The NLRB investigates and remedies unfair labor practices and conducts secret-ballot elections to determine whether employees desire union representation.
