Olivia Garcia named Regional Director in Los Angeles

NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe E. Solomon today announced the appointment of Olivia Garcia as Regional Director in the Los Angeles Regional Office (Region 21), with a satellite office in San Diego.  
Ms. Garcia will be responsible for the enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in southern California including Imperial, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego Counties and that portion of Los Angeles County lying east of Harbor Freeway and Gaffey Street, south and east of Pasadena Freeway and Arroyo Parkway, and south of Foothill Freeway and Baseline Road (State Route 30).
Ms. Garcia received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and her JD from the J Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University. She began her career with the Agency in 1982 in the Agency’s Fort Worth office (Region 16).  She served as a field attorney in the Fort Worth (Region 16), Los Angeles (Region 31), Newark (Region 22) and Oakland (Region 32) Regional Offices and the Houston Resident Office until 2000 when she was promoted to a resident officer position in the San Antonio Resident Office.  In 2003 she became a supervisory field attorney in the Agency’s San Francisco office (Region 20).  She served in this capacity until 2004 when she was promoted to the Deputy Regional Attorney position.  In 2005 she was promoted to the Regional Attorney position in San Francisco.  She will replace Regional Director James Small who retired from the Agency last year.
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative.  The Agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
