Washington, D.C.—National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. have named Paula S. Sawyer the new Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 27 Office in Denver. In her new position, Ms. Sawyer will be responsible for enforcement of one of the nation’s primary labor laws covering private sector employees in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and parts of Montana, Idaho, and Nebraska.
A career NLRB employee, Ms. Sawyer has been serving as Regional Attorney in Region 5. She succeeds Wanda Pate Jones, who retired from the Agency earlier this year.
A native of Utica, New York, Ms. Sawyer received her B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1977, and her J.D. with honors from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980. She began her career with the NLRB as a Field Attorney in the Winston-Salem Office in 1980. In 1985 she transferred to the Baltimore Regional Office, was promoted to Deputy Regional Attorney in 1997, and as the Regional Attorney in 2014.
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative. The Agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
