Remembering Ernie Dowd, former Regional Director in Tampa (Region 12)

Francis E. "Ernie" Dowd, who began his National Labor Relations Board career as a field investigator and retired as Regional Director in Tampa in 1994, passed away on March 4, his family announced. He was 80.
Born in Seneca Falls, NY, Mr. Dowd received his B.A. degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse and his law degree from Georgetown Law. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, before joining the NLRB in the field. In addition to his years at the NLRB, Mr. Dowd also served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Federal Labor Relations Authority, and also served as an Associate Chief Judge and Assistant Chief Counsel at the Department of Labor. The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the authority to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have a union as their collective bargaining representative, and to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
