Godfrey Dudley, who worked as an attorney at the NLRB from 1970 to 1988, died on November 7, 2013 in Washington, D.C. Mr. Dudley was 69 years old.
An obituary published in The Birmingham News notes that Mr. Dudley was a 1962 graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Bessemer, AL, and the Tuskegee Institute. He obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from Howard University Law School. After graduating from law school, Mr. Dudley briefly worked for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in its Birmingham, Alabama district office. In 1970, he transferred to the NLRB’s division of Enforcement Litigation, Office of Appeals, where he served as a Senior Attorney and Supervisory Attorney. In September 1979, Mr. Dudley was named Deputy Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel, Division of Operations-Management, where he was responsible for coordinating the administration and management of field offices in the Eastern, Northwestern, and Southern regions of the U.S.
Mr. Dudley was the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding performance at the NLRB. He is survived by his wife, Philippine Thomas Dudley; children, Godfrey D. Dudley, Jr., Kenneth B. Dudley and Stephanie N. Dudley, all of Washington, DC; his mother, Ethel C. Dudley of Bessemer, AL; one brother and three sisters of Bessemer, AL, and one sister of Clinton, MD; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
His funeral will take place this Friday, November 15, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ft. Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD 20722. A gathering at the funeral home is scheduled prior to the service, from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at 3516 13th St. NE, Washington, DC 20017.
