Texas Employees Reject Continued Unionization

Employees at a window and door manufacturing plant in Dallas have voted 388 to 189 to reject continued union representation in an NLRB-supervised secret ballot election.
The employees at Atrium North Texas, a Division of Atrium Companies, Inc., had been represented by the union UNITE HERE and its predecessors since 1993. In October of this year, another union, Southwest Regional Joint Board, Workers United, which is affiliated with SEIU, filed a petition to represent the employees. After the petition was filed, UNITE HERE disclaimed interest in continuing to represent the employees. The unit includes about 620 production and maintenance workers.
The election, conducted on December 15 by NLRB Region 16, asked employees to choose between representation by Southwest Regional and no union, and they chose no union. The Regional Director will certify the results within seven days of the election if no objections to the conduct of the election are filed. 
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the authority to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have a union as their collective bargaining representative, and to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employees and unions.
