Jennifer A. Abruzzo, Acting General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa García as Officer-In-Charge for Subregion 24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In her new position, Ms. García assists Region 12 Director David Cohen in the enforcement and administration of the National Labor Relations Act in Puerto Rico and in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Ms. García succeeds former Officer-In-Charge Luis Padilla.

Ms. García graduated from the University of Texas in 1983 with a B.A. in Political Science.  She received her J.D. in 1996 from the InterAmerican University School of Law in San Juan, Puerto Rico and began working at the NLRB’s San Juan Office as a Field Attorney in 1999. Ms. García was promoted to Supervisory Field Attorney in 2006, and served as a Supervisor in the Miami Resident Office and in San Juan.

The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities.  It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
