Today, General Counsel Jennifer A. Abruzzo announced the appointment of Elizabeth K. Kerwin to serve as the Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 7 office. With the Regional Office in Detroit and a Resident Office in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Region 7 is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions throughout the entire Lower Peninsula and the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

“Elizabeth has worked tirelessly to enforce the statute and educate the public about rights and obligations under the National Labor Relations Act,” said General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. “I am confident that she will pursue outreach opportunities with vigor and take the lead on initiatives.”

A native of Loda, Illinois, Ms. Kerwin graduated in 2001 from the University of Illinois with a degree in Business Administration. In 2002, she received a Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois.

Ms. Kerwin began her career with the Agency as a Student Assistant Field Examiner Co-Op in Region 29–Brooklyn in 2002 before being hired as a Field Examiner in Region 7 in 2003. She was promoted to Supervisory Examiner in 2014 and to her prior position as Assistant to the Regional Director in 2016.

Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 7 serves areas in Michigan from its Regional Office in Detroit and its Resident Office in Grand Rapids.
