Iva Y. Choe Appointed as Regional Director of Region 8 (Cleveland)

Today, General Counsel Jennifer A. Abruzzo announced the appointment of Iva Y. Choe to serve as the Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 8 office. With a Regional Office in Cleveland, Ohio, Region 8 is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions throughout Northern Ohio.
“Iva has more than capably handled significant responsibilities whenever asked, including most recently as the Acting Deputy General Counsel,” said General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. “I know that she will use her exceptional talents and skills to successfully lead the Region.
Born in the Bronx, New York, Ms. Choe was raised in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University with a BA in political science in 1992. She received her juris doctor from Ohio State University College of Law in 1995.
Ms. Choe began her career with the Agency in 1995 as a Field Attorney. She was promoted to supervisory attorney in 2012 and regional attorney in 2014. She served as Acting Regional Director from May 2019 to August 2020, and as Acting Deputy General Counsel from February 2021 through July 2021.
Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 8 serves areas in Ohio from its Regional Office in Cleveland.
