On January 13, 2025, NLRB Region 32-Oakland secured a Settlement Agreement to resolve allegations in an unfair labor practice charge filed by an individual against Mozilla Corporation (the Employer).
In November 2023, the Regional Director of Region 32 issued a complaint alleging that the Employer refused to hire the individual because she engaged in the protected concerted activity of discussing with other job applicants ways to improve the hiring process in the technology industry.
Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Mozilla must make the individual whole by paying a total of $300,000, including backpay, interest, and expenses. The Employer will also physically and electronically distribute a remedial Notice and the NLRB’s Explanation of Rights poster to its employees.
“I applaud the great work of Region 32 staff in investigating this case and obtaining this exceptional settlement,” said NLRB Region 32 Regional Director Christy Kwon. “Workers have the right to discuss terms and conditions of employment, and these remedies serve to effectuate the National Labor Relations Act.”
Field Attorneys Ezera Miller-Walfish and Evan Mantler handled the matter for the Region.
Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 32 serves areas in California and Nevada from its Regional Office in Oakland.
