Susan A. Wade-Wilhoit Appointed as the Officer-in-Charge for Subregion 17–Overland Park, Kansas

Today, General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo announced the appointment of Susan A. Wade-Wilhoit to serve as the Office-in-Charge of Subregion 17 in Overland Park, Kansas. Subregion 17 is part of Region 14, which also has a Resident Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma and a Regional Office in St. Louis, Missouri. Region 14 is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
“Susan has served her entire career as a passionate advocate of the Board’s mission and a staunch supporter of its employees,” said General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. “I’m pleased that Susan will be taking on a larger role leading Subregion 17 in upholding the National Labor Relations Act.”
Susan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeast Missouri State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Susan went on to study law at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) graduating Member of the Bench and Robe (Top 10%) with a Juris Doctor in 1996.
While studying at UMKC, Susan pursued a passion for Labor and Employment Law, serving legal internships at Subregion 17 of the National Labor Relations Board in the Fall of 1995 and the Department of Labor – Solicitor’s Office in the Winter and Spring of 1996. In September 1996, Susan accepted a full-time position with Subregion 17 of the National Labor Relations Board as a Field Attorney. Susan worked as a Field Attorney in Subregion 17/Region 14 from 1996 to February 2013 when she became a Supervisory Field Attorney for Region 14.
Susan has been married to her high school sweetheart since 1993 and currently lives in Shawnee, Kansas. Susan has two children, Emma who is a 1L Law Student at Washington University in St. Louis and Jackson who is beginning his junior year of high school. When Susan can be pried away from the office, she enjoys hiking and great American road trips to the National Parks.
Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 14 serves areas in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma from its Regional Office in St. Louis, its Subregional Office in Overland Park, and its Resident Office in Tulsa.
