Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 13 serves areas in Illinois and Indiana from its Regional Office in Chicago.
NLRB Chicago Office Issues Complaint against Postmates
Chicago, IL—The National Labor Relations Board’s Region 13 Office in Chicago has issued complaint against Postmates (13-CA-163079). Upon investigation, the Chicago Office found that there was merit to the October 2015 charge filed against the on-demand food delivery service.
NLRB Chicago Office & Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago Sign Agreement to Strengthen Collaborative Efforts
Chicago, IL-- The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 13 Office in Chicago and the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago, Illinois have signed an agreement that will strengthen their collaborative efforts to provide Mexican workers, their employers, and Mexican business owners across the Chicago Metropolitan region with information, guidance, and access to education regarding their rights and responsibilities under the National Labor Relations Act.
NLRB's Chicago Office to Close Friday, February 19 Due to Relocation
CHICAGO, IL—The Chicago Regional Office will be relocating from 209 South LaSalle Street, Suite 900, to 219 South Dearborn Street, Suite 808, Chicago, IL 60604 on Friday, February 19, 2016 and will not be open to the public on that date. The Chicago Regional Office will reopen on Monday, February 22, 2016.
Excess bound volumes of NLRB Decisions and Orders will be available to the public
Since the enactment of the National Labor Relations Act, the Decisions and Orders of the National Labor Relations Board have been published in bound volumes. The Agency’s Region 13 office in Chicago, Illinois will be moving to a smaller location in February. Following this move, the Agency will retain only a limited number of complete sets of the Board Decisions and Orders.
Bankruptcy Court Grants Payment of $295,000 to Former Republic Windows & Doors Employees
Chicago, IL— Former Republic Windows and Doors employees will receive long overdue backpay of $295,000 after a motion from the NLRB’s Region 13 in Chicago was granted by the Bankruptcy Court of the Northern District of Illinois. In a June 2011 decision, the Board found that the employer violated the National Labor Relations Act when they closed their Goose Island facility and moved operations to an alter ego operation in Iowa.
NLRB New Election Rules Discussion Follow-up
On Tuesday April 7, 2015, Region 13 Regional Director Peter Sung Ohr and Assistant Regional Director Daniel Nelson explained the new representation case rules scheduled for implementation on April 14, 2015.
