Ethics Office
Led by an Associate General Counsel who serves as the Agency’s Designated Agency Ethics Official (DAEO), our office staff includes professionals with diverse backgrounds and educations, including advanced degrees in law and business, as well as expertise in adult learning and training development and practical experience relating to NLRB operations. For example, some of our staff includes former NLRB Field Attorneys who provide us with “real world” experience about legal ethics issues that arise in investigations and litigation, and we use their experience to help develop high quality training programs. In addition, we are fortunate to have an Associate General Counsel who has worked on both the Board and General Counsel sides of the Agency and also represented the Agency in federal court proceedings. We believe that our expertise in these areas equips us with knowledge and perspective about the workings of many facets of the Agency’s processes, which helps us better understand the ethics issues Agency employees may face.
The NLRB’s Ethics Office supports the mission of the NLRB by providing customized comprehensive ethics guidance in response to ethics questions. We also provide NLRB employees with a wide array of training products and resources, which interpret and explain both legal and government ethics topics and obligations. In addition to keeping abreast of changes in the relevant laws, we also work to stay current with trends in technology and training to help provide the highest quality resources for Agency employees. Our work is dynamic, and we’re always answering novel questions. Whether it be addressing a legal ethics issue about whether an employee may ethically accept certain evidence, examining thorny recusal questions about whether an employee may participate in a particular matter, or developing new training products to explain complicated ethics questions, we are consistently researching and applying the relevant laws and regulations.
The NLRB’s Ethics Office operates in a highly collaborative team environment, and we look for individuals who can thrive managing their workloads as part of a remote-based team and who can also work cohesively with the group. We appreciate self-motivated thinkers and doers, who are flexible, willing to learn and grow every day, and who can be an essential part of creating and maintaining a transparent, ethical culture throughout our Agency. Although we are a relatively small team, we effectively address a wide range of government and legal ethics issues with the goals of protecting employees from violations and promoting the integrity of the Agency's processes.
