Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 10 serves areas in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia from its Regional Office in Atlanta, its Subregional Office in Winston-Salem, and Resident Offices in Birmingham and Nashville.
Pilot program will consolidate offices in Regions 10 and 11 and Regions 14 and 17
National Labor Relations Board Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon announced implementation of a pilot program consolidating Regional Offices effective May 1, 2012. The pilot program will consolidate Regional Offices in Atlanta, Georgia (Region 10) and Winston-Salem, North Carolina (Region 11). This program will also consolidate Regional Offices in St. Louis, Missouri (Region 14) and Kansas City, Kansas (Region 17). In addition, the sub-regional office in Peoria, Illinois will move from the jurisdiction of the St.
Workers at RJ Reynolds facilities in North Carolina vote against union representation
Maintenance and production employees at two RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. facilities in North Carolina voted against union representation this week in an NLRB-supervised secret ballot election.
The tally of ballots early Friday found 686 votes against and 556 in favor of union representation. The election was sought jointly by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. A total of 1324 workers were eligible to vote.
Swedwood employees vote for union in NLRB election
Employees at the Swedwood plant in Danville, Virginia voted in favor of representation by the International Association of Machinists in an NLRB-supervised election Wednesday.
Results, released by the NLRB at 5:30 p.m., were 221 votes in favor of the union and 69 opposed, with one challenged ballot and one void ballot. There were a total of 318 eligible workers at the plant, which assembles products for IKEA.
The election was conducted at the Swedwood plant by staff of NLRB Region 11 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
