Elizabeth Tafe

Judge Elizabeth Tafe was appointed an NLRB judge in November 2016, after serving as a Social Security judge.  Before being appointed a judge with Social Security, Judge Tafe spent 16 years with the Board in various positions, including as a trial attorney in the Board’s Boston office, and also as counsel to several Board members in Washington.  Judge Tafe received her A.B. degree, cum laude, from Harvard University.  She also received a Master’s degree in development psychology from San Francisco State University.  She received her J.D.

Benjamin Green

Judge Benjamin Green was appointed an NLRB judge in November 2016, after serving as a Social Security judge.  Before joining Social Security, Judge Green spent 16 years as a trial attorney in the Board’s offices in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Newark, New Jersey.  Before joining the Board, he spent three years in private practice handling labor and employment law matters.  Judge Green received his B.A. degree from Binghamton University and his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School.  

Kimberly Sorg-Graves

Judge Kimberly Sorg-Graves was appointed an NLRB judge in November 2016, after serving as a Social Security Judge for two years.  Before joining Social Security, Judge Sorg-Graves spent 15 years as a trial attorney in the Board’s Indianapolis, Indiana office.  She received a Bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Indiana University, and subsequently worked nine years as a special education teacher.  She earned her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.

Jeffrey P. Gardner

Judge Jeffrey P. Gardner was appointed an NLRB judge in November 2016.  He previously served 18 months as an ALJ with the Social Security Administration.  Before his appointment as a Social Security judge, Judge Gardner was in the private practice of law representing clients in labor and employment matters.  Earlier, he spent 14 years as a trial attorney with the Board’s regional office in Newark, New Jersey.  He has also taught as an adjunct professor at New York Law School.  Judge Gardner received his B.A.

Andrew Gollin

Judge Andrew Gollin was appointed an NLRB judge in November 2016, after service as a Social Security judge.  Prior to his tenure at Social Security, Judge Gollin served as a trial attorney in the Board’s office in Milwaukee for some 14 years.  Before joining the Board, he was an associate in private practice, handling labor and employment law matters.  He received his B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and his J.D.

NLRA and the Right to Strike

The Right to Strike. Section 7 of the Act states in part, “Employees shall have the right. . . to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection.” Strikes are included among the concerted activities protected for employees by this section. Section 13 also concerns the right to strike. It reads as follows:

Sharon Steckler

Judge Steckler was appointed in November 2015. Previously she served as a Social Security Judge. Before joining Social Security, Judge Steckler was a supervisory attorney in Region 16 of the NLRB. She also served as a field attorney in Region 14. Prior to coming to the Board, she worked in private practice and as a law clerk in the Missouri Court of Appeals. She earned her B.S.N. degree at Vanderbilt University and a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management at Washington University in St. Louis. Before attending law school, she was a nurse and a nurse educator.
